preference default country bug (loses ISO country code)

Bug Description
Could the preference saved under
GNUmed > Preferences > User interface > Person > Default country
be made smarter because presently it remembers and will pre-populate
Canada
but this is then rejected because this does not match the dropdown from which I need to select
Canada (CA)
