Bug Description

When GNOME Terminal is running under Unity with global menu, the option "View"->"Show Menubar" is still shown which doesn't make sense (it makes no difference and is not necessarily applicable.

This is probably a Won't Fix for the moment as a solution would require making Gnome Terminal aware of the environment that the terminal is running under (more codepaths to test and debug).

The shortcuts to switch tab (Alt+Num) and jump between words (readline feature: Alt+F/Alt+B) don't work too.

This is very important to the users who work under terminal.

Hello Tualatrix, thank you for sharing your experience about an issue in the Gnome-Terminal. I think what you have noticed is possibly bug #666926 ("All Alt-x menu shortcut keys in GNOME Terminal don't work under Unity (eg. Alt-t)"). Could you have a look at that, and if it is not what you're seeing (eg. if you aren't using Unity), please could you file a new bug report.

Keeping separate issues documented on separate bug reports makes each one easier to follow, and easier to fix!

Hi Paul, the "Show Menubar" is important and should be fixed, instead of hidden. This is related to bug #728040 (Enable Menu Access Keys was switched back on without my request).

Yikes, I meant it is related to bug #868152.

I did not read bug #868152 thoroughly enough. Now that I understand that there is (always was?) a separate setting to control the menu access keys I'm not sure which way you want to go, but I think that it should be easier to disable menu access keys and it used to be very easy when "Show Menubar" had that side-effect.

Also related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-gtk/+bug/787465 , in which the "show menubar" option doesn't work right when there ISNT a global menubar.

I mark it as a duplicate of bug 787465 (there's more comments there). There is also a solution provided: detecting global menu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MenuBar#detecting) and disabling menu and settings items if detected.
