Bug Description

System Configuration:
Operating System: Ubuntu 12.10
Package: gnome-terminal 3.6.0-0ubuntu1.

Steps to reproduce:
1. start gnome-terminal
2. execute "emacs -nw" to start emacs in terminal mode
3. type "Ctrl-." (Control-Period)

Expected behavior:
1. Emacs receives "Ctrl-."
2. "C-. is undefined" will be displayed in the status bar along the bottom of the terminal. (Assuming the tester has not bound this key.)

Actual behavior:
1. Emacs receives "."
2. Emacs inserts a period into the text buffer.

Other notes:
1. xterm correctly passes "Ctrl-." through to Emacs.
2. This bug affects other keycodes such as Ctrl-; and Ctrl-,
