Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Gnome System Monitor shows free disk space for each partition when opened up fully, but doesn't have a panel meter for it.

This would be really nice, and I don't see anything else that does this. I am used to http://jongrieve.net/diskmon/ for Windows, that sits in the tray and shows you if you're running out of room (which I've done and which really seems to screw up Linux).

It could maybe have a single meter with a horizontal bar inside for each partition that was selected by the user? I'll see if I can submit a mock-up.

Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the possibility of being implemented if you submit a specification for it. First check whether the idea is already registered <https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+specs>, and if so, contact the specification's drafter about your ideas. Otherwise, you can start writing a spec yourself. <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications>

On the other hand you might try the package "hardware-monitor" (from universe) it is able to display (free) disk space, and is capable of displaying horizontal bars as well.

I don't really care very much how exactly it's implemented.

So are blueprints on Launchpad the same thing as feature requests in other bug trackers?

Why are the feature specifications on an entirely separate website from the blueprints?

So now I have:
System Monitor 2.18.0
GNOME Sensors Applet 1.7.10
Hardware Monitor 1.4

all running. :-) Might as well add

CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.18.0

The more of these features that can be packed into a single applet, the better.

the specification tracker is to use for non trivial requests which are changes required only on one software and need to be schedule over a cycle, that's not the case of that one

the request should be sent upstream, it's not likely that we work on a small feature request like that in a distribution specific way
