Bug Description

I think it would be very good if you had the ability to rearrange items in the Activities Overview, what I mean by that is perhaps when pressing the Shift key or something and then dragging one of the windows (if there are any) it would allow you to rearrange their order. I am running Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 with GNOME 3.18.

@ngpaladi, Basically all feature requests are opinions. And marking it as so here makes it not show up in the list so I don't think it's that fair, I'm going to change it back to "New" unless someone officially from the project comes and says that it should be "Opinion". Plus, I don't think that the description of "Opinion" really fits ("Doesn't fit with the project, but can be discussed.").

Nikita is partially right in this regard. Opinion as defined in https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Statuses and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Bug%20statuses is considered a closed bug report and developers will move on to other bugs that really need fixing.

Nikita I do recommend that your great ideas go directly upstream to https://bug.gnome.org as we only really package what upstream creates and apply patches and fixes downstream. Hopefully the GNOME developers and contributors would be keen to work on the numerous feature requests you have already filed. :)

Perhaps an Ubuntu GNOME developer would like to comment on my response with regards to filing feature requests upstream instead of here. I just feel that is more suitable for feature requests which alter the core of GNOME completely be filed upstream.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice! I will create an account there ASAP and start filing my reports there too! And then link them here of course! ;)

I think this functionality used to exist some time in the past, I don't know if it was intentionally dropped or perhaps lost as fallout from when they overhauled the algorithm that organises the layout of windows on the overview.

It is worth also filing feature requests upstream, but probably don't expect any upstream developers to implement them unless they think its a really great idea, but they should indicate if it would be an acceptable feature for core gnome-shell or if it should be implemented as an shell extension.

Its also worth filing on launchpad, among other things searching for bugs on launchpad is far easier and also all launchpad bugs are indexed on google etc (bugzilla ones aren't). We can and do submit code upstream where relevant, so again it really comes down to finding someone interested on working on the implementation.

Also feature requests need to be marked "Wishlist", dont use "Opinion"

I have also now filed a report upstream on this issue: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=761212

I will do the rest tomorrow.
