Bug Description

In "Startup Applications", "Options" tab there is an option called "Automatically remember running applications when logging out".
If i have, for example, Firefox and the Terminal open in the present session, activating it, in the next sessions Firefox and the Terminal should start automatically! And so happens.
Then if i deactivate "Automatically remember running applications when logging out", Firefox and the Terminal should stop starting automatically in the next sessions; but this doesn't happen, deactivating it, Firefox and the Terminal still starts automatically in the next sessions.
I think this is a big problem, i noticed it in Lucid too.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug. There is also a vibrant support community available at http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.

Seems like a perfectly valid bug to me.
Does it occur in a fresh install of Lucid or Maverick?

This occurs in both Lucid and Maverick.
I chatted on #ubuntu-it-chat and noticed from others that this problem affects them from much time ago.

Remarking this as "new" in One Hundred Papercuts 'cause i think it corresponds to the description of a classic papercut ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut ).

@Fire, we understand that this is a problem for you, but we are unable to fix it as currently we have very little to go on. Since this bug is not present on every installed version of Ubuntu, it follows that there must be something in your system, either hardware or software (perhaps even BIOS) that is preventing this feature from functioning properly. If we're to fully diagnose this problem, then you're going to have to visit one of the support sites mentioned above and seek help finding a solution. The solution suggested on these sites will help us determine precisely what is wrong.

This bug *is* present on every version of Ubuntu, affects everybody using this feature (ie, is not specific to the reporters system), is well understood and is a duplicate of an already existing bug.

It's pretty easy for you to reproduce...
