Bug Description

I use an Asus EEEpc 900 so I'm not sure if this annoyance is specific to my model.

I turn my screen brightness up or down.
I dont use my computer for a few minutes, the screen dims as is set in the preferences.
When I move my mouse or start using my computer again it goes back to the default brightness level. Not the one that that I manually chose.

I have the same issue on an EEE 901.

Even if I disable the dimming and reduce backlight brightness options in power manager, the behavior is wrong.
I can change the screen brightness to the level I want, but after an idle time that corresponds to when the power manager would have blackened the screen, the brightness goes up to full again (even when these options are disabled) instead of blackening.

The power manager should dim and reduce backlight on the screen if these options are selected, but it should remember the brightness level I have manually selected when it goes back to normal. Even if my manual brightness is lower than the dim level.

Thanks a lot for reporting this, however a paper cut should be a small design flaw found in all default Ubuntu installations, and should be trivial to fix. This issue is simply a bug that needs fix, presumably at th kernel level where the EEE PC hardware meets the Ubuntu software.
