Bug Description

Since Trusty, the drums now sound when the screen locks. To reproduce, just leave your computer untouched for 10 minutes.

I believe this is an unintentional side-effect of the use of unity-greeter instead of gnome-screensaver. I can't see any usability benefit, and it can even be mildly annoying.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for taking time to enter this bug report and make Ubuntu better.

Hmm, I do not hear the drums when just using the lock screen now in Unity. This is on 14.04. It's not clear from your bug report which version of Ubuntu you are using, so could you please do an "apport-collect 1320999" from a terminal to help us better diagnose this issue?

Thanks!

I've done apport-collect and can confirm the issue is still there. I will note I am also having other lock screen issues:

I have my laptop closed, on AC power, and plugged into a monitor + keyboard. The power settings say "do nothing" when lid is closed.

If I wait 10 minutes, I hear the drums. I can then see the lock screen on the monitor briefly. The laptop then suspends.

To resume I have to open the laptop lid and enter my password. I then see my desktop for 2 seconds, then hear the drums again, see the new lock screen, and have to enter my password a second time. When I then reclose my laptop lid, the screen locks a third time (this time without drum sounds), and again I have to enter my password a third time to get back to work.

Needless to say, this is a completely ridiculous ritual.

If I open the screen, unplug the monitor, but leave the AC power attached, and then wait, I see the screen fade out, then I hear the drums at the lock screen. So in either case there are drums when there shouldn't be.

I don't have a separate bug yet for the 3 login issue as I'm not sure what component to file it against.
