Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using Ubuntu 9.10, I have moved the main panel to the left of the screen, selected "autohide" and de-selected "expand". When I move the cursor over the area the panel "jumps" to the middle of the screen, as shown in the screenshot attached, and returns to the left as hidden panel, instead of appearing on the place. The movement is very rapid and clicking on the panel results impossible.

Executing "sudo debconf gnome-panel" resulted in the panel working as expected again.

But then the problem reappeared without me changing the configuration of the panel in any way. It's definitively a bug!

As shown by the second screenshot, I have now managed to reproduce the bug in a predictable way. I have restored the original configuration running the commands illustrated here (http://www.watchingthenet.com/restore-panels-in-ubuntu-back-to-their-default-settings.html), then I modified the top panel (launchbar). The problem occurs whenever I try to position to the left or to the right a panel with the "expand" disabled. If I leave "expand" enabled no problem occurs. Left or right alignment result in the same behaviour.

summary: - Panel moves to the centre of the screen when using autohide and left
- positioning.
+ Gnome launcher panel moves to the centre of the screen when using
+ "autohide" and left or right positioning.
