Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Menu items in main menu applet can have different heights when using non-standard icon sets -- example attached. It used not to be so in 8.04. Also standard icon set does not exhibit such behaviour.

Yes, it is. For me it is enough to put gnome's main menu applet to the panel, and switch iconset in the appearance preferences window to “high contrast inverse”.
