Bug Description

So I pressed Alt+F2 and up came "Run application" dialog.
So I typed "free the fish" and pressed enter, and this cute little goldfish came and swam across the screen.

So I pressed Ctrl+Alt+L and started the screensaver (Fireworks).
But now I noticed that the fish was flickering on the screensaver and the rockets were lagging. :(

That's what you get for freeing the fish!!

Probably, you should "kill the fish" before you start the screensaver. To kill the fish do Alt+F2 and and type "killall gnome-panel" (your panels will come back...).

Hope that helps!

Well, I think that the fish shouldn't make the screensaver lag.
I think it should be fixed.

thank you for your bug report, the ubuntu team doesn't have the ressources to work on fixing upstream special jokes, open a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org if you really think that's an issue

2010 has arrived. The fish doesn't lag but it still does flicker the screen saver and the lock screen.
Perhaps we should consider to remove these GNOME "easter eggs".

or perhaps we should care about real bugs rather than discussing cleaning easter eggs bugs or code there

Nor is worth making "easter eggs" that cause issues.
