Does not work in Ubuntu 11.04

Bug #743458 reported by Andrew Tipton on 2011-03-27

Bug Description

Installing the gnome-gmail package has no effect. The "Preferred Applications" dialog does not have an entry for Gmail, and there is no entry for the program in the system menu. Running the "gnome-gmail" command in the terminal results in my default browser (Chrome) loading Gmail's compose message page in a new tab -- which is exactly the expected behaviour.

I don't see how this is a duplicate of #708382. That bug relates to the removal of the "Custom application" option in the Preferred Applications dialog; my report is that, after installing the gnome-gmail package, it does not add itself to the list of e-mail applications which can be selected in the Preferred Applications dialog. Surely that is the expected behaviour?
