Bug Description

Whenever I try to preview a document file, I get "Error converting file to PDF." I've tried doc, odf, ods, xls. Oddly, odp gives a nice big icon and no error. Txt and pdf files work fine.

do you have unoconv or abiword installed?

gloobus-preview needs at least one of them to convert files to pdf, but
convertion is too slow (abiword is a little bit faster)

It is pretty slow. I still am getting no preview of Impress Presentations.

I think presentations and spreadsheets work only with unoconv (shipped with
openoffice, but not always, I've never managed to install it on my box)

I have the same problem, unoconv or abiword does'nt solve partially.
Sometimes I get the error : Error converting file to PDF, sometimes it works with the same file?!

But with files greater then 100kb I get the error, described in Bug #500265.

Yes, we have a filesize limit, because if not, it may take a lot to load..
I can add a loading icon while its being loaded, and then increase the file size to convert.

It's said abiword works faster for this issue, compared to unoconv. I'm wondering which one is preferred to use
by gloobus-preview, when both two are installed.

Maybe it'd be nice to have the option to change the filesize limit? I can't preview a single doc or docx file.

Why don't you use ooo-thumbnailer provided by OpenOffice which nautilus uses? It works perfectly stable.
