Bug Description

In contrary to the links on web pages or the toolbar button, with bookmark global menu, when I hover a link in the menu, I do not have the address showing up in the bottom left of Firefox screen as usually, it was useful to get this.

Before FIrefox 4 there was a status bar in bottom of screen, where we could see at bottom left the address of a web page appearing when hovering with mouse (without clicking) a link or a bookmark in the bookmark menu. In FF 4 this status bar has been replaced with an addon bar, for those who like having in the bottom some addons buttons.

Now, in Firefox 4, when you hover a link in a page, the address text appears in bottom left of Firefox window, just above the addon bar, in a temporary non-fix bar.

But in the Bookmark Menu of Global Menubar extension, when I just hover any of the favorites I have, it does not show the address text in bottom left, and I'm missing it, it is somtimes useful (when you have thousands of bookmarks) to know exactly which is the address.

If I install an addon like Toolbar buttons - https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/toolbar-buttons/ - and put in the main bar, for example just next the address field, the bookmark button, which shows the bookmark menu when clicked, then when I hover a favorite, its address appears well on bottom left. So this is a missing behavior of Global Menubar extension, not Firefox 4.

Thanks in advance. Xavier

This isn't possible to implement, as that information just isn't available to Firefox (remember that the menu is rendered by Unity now)

OK, no problem if this is not directly related to Firefox, I understand.

Other things (probably related to this bug, so I didn't open other) about global menu extension are:
- I can't open a bookmark in another tab using mouse middle button or keystroke Ctrl+Click
- I can't drag and drop bookmarks
- I can't open context menu in a bookmark

Why did you just specify a load of random problems on a completely unrelated bug report? Please don't do that.

In answer to your concerns:

1) That's not supported in dbusmenu yet. Bug 748850 tracks implementing that, but it's not going to happen for Natty
2) Not support by the GtkMenu's rendered by Unity, or dbusmenu (and never will be). Menus should not be used as a bookmark editor. The *are* menus, after all
3) Not supported by the menu system either, and there aren't any plans to. Context menus in menus are horrible, and some of the features provided by that context menu will be provided by the solution to point 1

importance: Undecided → Wishlist

Note, to make the original problem reported here work, we need menu to know from dbusmenu which menu entry the mouse hovers over, so we can generate menu activate events in Firefox

Sorry by this. I imagined that open other bug report would be bad.

Point 1, for me is the most annoying. The others are bonus :)
