I don't think that this necessarily should be a 'git ubuntu' subcommand vs. part of the existing 'submittodebian' command, but I think this is a critically important part of the merge workflow that needs to be supported.

There's git-format-patch and git-send-email. I think it makes sense for 'git ubuntu' to do things the git way, which would involve sending them like this. git's emailed patches are nice in that the recipient can programatically accept these patches with less metadata loss, and those maintainers not using git wouldn't have a problem accepting git-emailed patches either, as they are straightforward patches.

submittodebian does some other nice things too I think. Can we enumerate these things in this bug, please, so that we can use that to decide whether to try and achieve reasonable parity making use of the existing git tooling, or try to integrate with 'submittodebian'?

FWIW, I don't consider the merge workflow part of our 1.0 milestone. It happened to have come first, but it doesn't impact the stability things we want to achieve for a 1.0.

All this is debatable of course.
