Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautils allows you to resize icons with ctrl ++ or ctrl+- and to reset icons sizes with ctrl+0 (the key combination is displayed in Nautilus menu)
But ctrl+0 doesn't work for Eye Of GNOME and Nautilus

thank you for your bug report, that's not a bug though, to do a 0 in french you need to use shift

Sorry, can we evaluate that bug report from a usuability point of view ?

On a desktop keyboard, you can zoom in/out with ctrl+ +/- and ctrl+0 is just below, it would be very practical to use it.

Besides, this is the expected behaviour since Ubuntu has Firefox as default web browser wich allow ctrl+0 to reset the size page

Moreover, Nautilus menu itself says that you have to key ctrl+0 to reset the size

Ubuntu for human being ?

the issue is not a nautilus bug but a keymap or gtk one rather, eog does the same for example

Hi thibaut-bethune,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[Problem]
(I may be misinterpreting this; apologies if so, it's late).
On French keyboards, the "0" key actually produces a "à" if used with no modifiers. Various applications are set up with shortcuts for ctrl+0, but having to type ctrl+shift+à to use them is inconvenient. No apps really use ctrl+à since that's a non-standard shortcut, so instead treat it the same as ctrl+0.

[Original Report]
Nautils allows you to resize icons with ctrl ++ or ctrl+- and to reset icons sizes with ctrl+0 (the key combination is displayed in Natilus menu)
But ctrl+0 doesn't work in Intrepid alpha 6

ctrl+shift+à (on a french keyboard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#French ) works whereas ctrl+0 doesn't

can we evaluate that bug report from a usuability point of view ?

I've forwarded your bug upstream to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20094 - please subscribe to that in case upstream has questions.

To me it looks like the application/tookit issue. Or configuration issue. If you add second layout (say, US), it should work ok at least in gtk apps.

If we put 0 into third level and make Ctrl a switcher to the 3rd level, you'll get O when you press Ctrl-à. But it won't be Ctrl+O (because Ctrl will not be Ctrl any more).

We had hot discussions about same thing in Russian layout, when, for example, Ctrl-Щ is not recognized as Ctrl-O in shortcuts - but adding US layout fixes that, at least in proper gtk apps (it was an issue for Firefox for a looooong while).

As per upstream feedback as well as comment #4, seems more likely to be a gtk issue than xkeyboard-config. Sorry to bounce this bug around yet again, but seems to be a higher level issue.

i'd like to check if we're saying the same thing :

when i say "ctrl+0 is not working" i'm speaking of the 0 key that stands on the numeric keypad
whereas the number key that can be accessed in combination with the shift key works (ctrl+shift+à on a french keyboard)

Therefore i'd like to be able to set the zoom factor with the numeric keypad, keying ctrl++, ctrl+- and ctrl+0.
At present time, ctrl++ and ctrl+- are working but not ctrl+0 (both on the numeric keypad)

Considering recent bug fix in Epiphany 2.27.92, it looks like that bug could be related to applications themselves.
Therefore i add Nautilus and Eye of GNOME to that report since both have a menu entry for size resetting that points out to "ctrl+0" shorcut.
I don't add Evince since i didn't see a similar entry in its menu therefore i'm not sure that "ctrl+0" is supposed to be a shorcut (which could be a lack of consistency through GNOME but this would be another bug)
