Bug Description

OS: KDE Neon 5.8.5
GIMP version: 2.9.5

When saving image with the option "Save for Web", crushing plugin "file-png",
GIMP gives the following messages:

-------
Plug-in crashed: "file-png"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-png)

Calling error for procedure 'file-png-get-defaults':
Procedure 'file-png-get-defaults' returned no return values
-------

And the file in .png format can not be saved.

However, when I use the menu item "Export as" saving in .png possible.

The "gimp-plugin-registry" was updated from the ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp-edge. This does not give effect.

In the previous version of GIMP 2.8 had no such errors.

The plugin save-for-web is outdated.
Reason: In Gimp 2.9.x there are changes regarding the image precision, i.e, there are more than 8bit.
Now there are 8, 16, 32 bit integer and 16, and 32 bit floating point precisions.

Sorry for that, but the only way in order to run save-for-web under Gimp 2.9.x is a new implementation.

Cheers

I suspect that's the case.
I'll wait for updates.
Thanks for the answer.

So this turned out to be a rather simple bug in the file-png plug-in:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=777403

Pushed to master, should be gone with any build of 2.9.x made from now on.

Afaik the save for web plugin is outdated due to enormous changes based
on the new colour model, i.e. 8 to 32bit integer, and 16,32bit floating
point as well.
Please ask the GIMP developers regarding your needs. I'm just the
packager. O:-)
