Bug Description

Gnome will not be able to show status icons as of release 3.26, which is due in a few weeks.

This may seem irritating at first, but if you read more about it, you will see that the reasons behind that are really logical and consequent. I think it would be best to implement the menu in some way like it’s done in the Nextcloud client, maybe. Or maybe you add an icon on the upper right of the Nautilus header bar or hamburger menu? Here you see a blog post with demonstration video:

Furthermore, this would also solve the Wayland issues reported in #1632892 and #1659938. If you’re unsure about a good solution, you should ask Allan Day, the lead designer of Gnome. ;)

(I'm not a developer, just a user commenting here) Gnome 3 is not the only desktop environment, some still support the old and reliable status icons, instead of trying to reinvent it over and over..

It still works in X with an extension, but not in Wayland. However, this software seems to be deprecated since quite some time…
