Bug Description

I'm running Fedora 25 with Gnome 3.22.4 and when being on Wayland, I don't know how to start/use GEncFSM, since there is no icon appearing in the tray.

Btw.: Can't this be transformed to this new Gnome Shell tray icon/utility thing? The old tray icons don't behave well…

Thank you for reporting this issue.

Most likely GEncfsM falls back to use the classic tray icon. Can you try to force the usage of the appindicator by executing the following line in a terminal?

gnome-encfs-manager set_pref force_traysystem="appindicator" && gnome-encfs-manager --replace

Regards,
Moritz

PS: The native gnome shell tray icons are written in javascript and interfacing with backends over dbus. It's not worth it since appindicators can be also put next to the native icons in gnome shell if wanted using e.g. this extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/

Hi Moritz,

this is my output, seems running but I sadly can't see anything. I'm using latest Fedora 25 with Gnome 3.22.2. Do you need more information or output?

Regards,
Frank

P.S. 1: It works with this extension, but the icon is squeezed, like you see in the attached screenshot.

P.S. 2: Some years ago, the icon turned blue for as long as containers were mounted – is this still possible?

$ gnome-encfs-manager set_pref force_traysystem="appindicator" && gnome-encfs-manager --replace
xkbcommon: ERROR: Key "<LFSH>" added to modifier map for multiple modifiers; Using Lock, ignoring Shift
Using AppIndicator

Hmm, I don't know why the icon is squeezed.

It looked correctly when I gave it a try: http://libertyzero.com/GEncfsM/img_shell-wayland.png

You seem to have a high resolution screen with UI scaling, so maybe the extension has some problems with the scaling of SVG images. Converting the panel icons to PNG might be worth a shot but then there might be scaling problems in other desktop environments (in the past notably KDE 5, lxde and cinnamon iirc., don't know the current statuses and there are lots of DE's out there).

As for the mounted-indication, I don't think I have changed anything major there so it should still be working.

Kind regards,
Moritz

I'm sure SVG would be the better solution, but Fedora has several bugs at the moment, I'll wait some time.

As for the blue icon – now in Wayland it turns blue for the duration of unencrypting and mounting (~ 1 sec), and then gets back normal again. With X I think it didn't turn blue at all (but I'm not that sure, if it there also turns blue for some short time).

Ok, so now with Fedora 26 the icon has the right size, but the blue icon still gets overwritten by the grey one – could you please take a look into this?

I run Fedora 35 with Gnome 41 and Top Indicator App extension by quiro9.

I cant get gnome-encfs-manager icon when using Wayland but it works fine using xorg.

Any help ?
