Comment 144 for bug 34813

This might be similar to the Virtualbox/gedit fails to save bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/341725) which I suspect is caused by glib and the way it saves to a temporary file, then renames without closing the file.
