In the directory file:///usr/share/gEDA/sym/diode/:

diode-1.sym (Cathode =pin 2)
diode-2.sym (Cathode =pin 2)
diode-3.sym (Cathode =pin 1)

After some searching, I found that some mfg's mark the Anode as Pin 1 but in many others, it the Cathode
In PCB, the footprint diode_lay 300.fp marks the cathode as pin 1. Glad I examined the PCB layout before and caught this before sending a run into production as I am reading in many places that Pin 1 is always Cathode. I can see where diode-1.sym and diode-3.sym are opposites to work around this but perhaps the pins be shown to help avoid confusion for users who may be unaware of these differences.
