Bug Description

I've been using geda-gaf 1.8.2 on Mac OSX built from source, and have built 1.9.2 and the git head as well. In all 3, I've noticed rendering issues. I posted these on the geda-help forum, and Vladimir asked that I post here as well.

Screenshots that demonstrate each issue are available at:
  http://academics.wellesley.edu/Physics/jbattat/geda/issues/

* In 1.8.2, the screen is not properly rendered after you select then deselect a part

* In 1.9.2 and git head, the "overbear" notation (e.g. "\_Q\_") produces a very thick over-bar, and the PDF output produced by gaf shows the entire character as a solid black rectangle (i.e. no letter + overbar, just a black block).

* In 1.9.2 and git head, no toolbar icons or menus display until you mouse-over (icons) or click (menu items).

For reference, I am running debian as a VM on the same Mac OSX machine, and see none of the above issues on that platform.
