Bug Description

Hello,
I'm running gschem 1.7.1 under Cygwin. Two days ago I upgraded my Cygwin installation and now gschem won't launch. I tried installing 1.8.2 and it has the same problem. On the other hand, I am still able to launch PCB.

If I type the following at the command prompt:

gschem

it returns without any messages on the console and no error messages in the log. The entire log looks like this:

gEDA/gschem version 1.8.2.20130925
gEDA/gschem comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; see COPYING for more details.

Read init scm file [/usr/local/share/gEDA/scheme/gschem.scm]
Parsed config from [/usr/local/share/gEDA/system-gafrc]
Parsed config from [/usr/local/share/gEDA/system-gschemrc]

If there's something preventing gschem from launcing, it should report it explicitly.

Please advise on how to diagnose this problem.

Thanks.

Hi,
It looks like gtk+ is broken in my Cygwin installation. I think this is causing gschem to segfault. I can open PCB on the other hand, but it segfaults when I try to use a file chooser (e.g., "Load Layout").

This problem seems familiar.

Hello Peter,
For the bug "gschem >1.7.2 won't build in Cygwin":

It seems this was introduced recently. I think I worked around this
one, but it should be easy for you to fix in in the build system as far
as I can tell.

For the bug: "gschem won't launch/start. Fails silently.":

This doesn't seem to be a bug in geda. For some reason GTK+ apps won't
run in Cygwin32 anymore. They all give segfaults (and I had the core
dumps turned off, hence the silent failure). I asked the Cygwin
community, but no one really responded.

I've been using geda to make PCBs at work and it was worrisome when I
couldn't get geda running for over a month. Right now I've resorted to
using the Windows builds from the Electroniq guys.

I really like geda a lot. It a great tool for productivity. Thank you
for your reply.
