Endless SSL error loop when not using -fstack-check

Bug Description
When compiled without the -fstack-check flag, gearman will sit in an endless loop after the first client request with SSL enabled. This is enough to reproduce it:
gearadmin -S --server-version
Both CXXFLAGS and CFLAGS need this compiler flag. Note that this flag is included when building gearman by hand.
However, this error shows up in debian packaging because these flags will not be used unless you manually modify the debian/rules file to include these flags.
