Any link to fetch movie information has stopped working.

I'm using ubunt0 12.1. I installed GCStar using the software center which installed version 1.6.2 (I think). It did not work so I updated to GCStar 1.7.0. on December 15, 2003. It does not fetch information either. I've tried to fetch information from several different sites and the results are the same. GCStar hangs and no information is retrieved. This also happens when using the upc number via the barcode scanner.
