Bug Description

From the My Photos scope, clicking on a picture does not correctly open it in the gallery-app. The problem is that any apps/scopes that use that request photos have no way to open them. Currently the scope tries to use file:/// urls and this does not work. The proposed solution is to use photo:// urls just like we've added for mediaplayer-app (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/mediaplayer-app/+bug/1340952)

What is the exact use case here? Where are you trying to open a picture from?

First use case is The "My Pictures" scope in the dash. Currently it tries to launch file:// urls but I believe the plan is to make it use photo specific url that we need to support. If gallery is already open it needs to refresh to show the correct picture.

There shouldn't be anything to do in url-dispatcher: it is true that there is special case code in URL dispatcher to send certain file:/// URIs to music-app or mediaplayer-app, but we are in the process of removing them (among other things, it didn't handle removable storage properly). Given that there is no special casing for photos, there is no equivalent work needed.

The "My Pictures" scope hasn't yet been merged to unity-scope-mediascanner (I haven't even seen a branch for it), but that is the only other component that will need changing here.

I agree with jamesh that I don't see any url-dispatcher work here, so I'm marking that bug task as invalid. Please change it if there's something that's needed in url-dispatcher.
