Bug Description

I clicked on the MultiTasking View icon on the plank, intending to switch to another workspace. Instead, the wallpaper went black, and I can no longer see the original workspace, which has/had a process running, and I have no idea what the status of that is.

I think this is related to updates not processing during install. I had
selected to run updates and get ubuntu proprietary drivers during
install.
After this error occurred, I discovered that the drivers never install,
so I think that the updates didn't process either. After running
updates manually, I am unable to repro this issue.
