Bug Description

Every once in a while, mostly while using Alt-TAB or browsing in Midori, a huge black gash presents itself. I have pictures that I could show if that would help at all. Anyway, I am on a Dell Inspiron 1545 and my graphics chipset is th: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

First bug report so please tell me if something is incorrect.

Experiencing the same issue. On most animations of gala the black/desktop flickering appears randomly. I have the same GPU. I think pantheon desktop of freya has quite poor performance on this hardware. On Luna it works great.

Same here. HP 530 with Intel 945GM display. Happens at every boot and randomly when using Freya. It never happened in Freya beta, only since I installed the stable version. I assumed it had something to do with the kernel going up to 3.16, but using the 3.13 kernel doesn't fix this issue. Here's a little video about it, posted on the Freya help G+ page: https://plus.google.com/+AlexTheDirtchamber/posts/WMCYTRvyi4P

Martijn Starrenburg to bring a resolution to the problem : https://plus.google.com/+AlexTheDirtchamber/posts/WMCYTRvyi4P?cfem=1

Martijn Starrenburg wrote :

The problem is that SNA acceleration for Intel drivers in kernel 3.16 (Freya's default kernel) is activated by default.
This was not the case for kernel 3.13 (Freya Beta2)
To check this just run this command

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep SNA

What I did to fix this is:
Create a file called 20-intel.conf in the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory.
Put this content in the file (enable the "old" UXA acceleration method):

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Save the file and reboot.

I have an HP Compaq 6730b with a lot of graphics problem with freya
and i never had these problems with the beta.

So I remove the LTS Hardware Enablement Stack
and now every thing works fine.
