Bug Description
This is true for Luna and the reason I stopped using it. I'm submitting it here in hope that the next version will have it addressed and become more laptop friendly.
My laptop has a dedicated Nvidia card, I am using the proprietary drivers with it. My goal is to reduce idle power consumption. The problem is that, it seems, Gala forces vertical sync, which causes 60 unnecessary wakeups each second, and thus wastes the battery.
I have switched to Xubuntu at the moment, and they have a configuration setting to control whether composition requests vertical syncing or not.
It would be nice for Gala to detect the battery mode and scale back in it's effects and stop requesting vertical syncs.
Please let me know if you need any further details.
