Bug Description

Doing multitouch testing per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/Testing/Multitouch

Performing the following test case fails:
http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Applications/Unity/Touch/WindowMove

With a Magic Mouse, the three finger touch doesn't seem to work. I also tried three-finger click just in case I needed that to make it activate but that too did nothing.

I should add that I was hesitant to open this initially, but the Magic Mouse is supposed to support up to 4 or 5 fingers, so here thar be bugs.

Works for me. Sounds like you've got an issue in the touch subsystem config.

I can only get single finger horizontal and vertical scrolling working on this device.

Out of curiosity, Mark, are you using the Magic Mouse or the Magic Trackpad? I'm wondering still if this is just a limitation of the Magic Mouse or the driver for it that the Trackpad doesn't suffer from.

To be honest, I opened the bugs because the MultiTouch Testing request included the Magic Mouse in addition to the Magic Trackpad and other multitouch devices.

I should also add for clarity that on the off chance that my previous failure was a result of my testing system (it was an upgrade test initially from Lucid to Maverick to Natty Alpha with subsequent updates applied), I reinstalled the system using Natty Beta 1 as of 2 April. I attempted the touch gestures again on my Magic Mouse but none of them seem to work on a freshly installed Beta 1 system.

Ah, I'm using the Magic Trackpad, I think the Magic Mouse may only be
treated like a mouse+scrollwheel rather than a multi-touch device.

I thought that may be the case, and was hesitant to even file bugs in the first place, but I'd rather open bugs and be wrong than not open them and miss something important.

According to some limited research, the touch device on the Magic Mouse *should* be able to handle at least 4-figure gestures but not easily due to the limited area. And I wasn't sure about just what we're going to support regarding the magic mouse in the first place...

So if the support for the mouse is going to only be scroll and click, then both my MT bugs can be safely ignored. Alex did ask for testing on the Magic Mouse, though, which was another reason I filed bugs in the first place.

I really need to go pick up the Magic Trackpad... I just haven't had the time to make the trip out to the Apple Store to pick one up yet.

Thanks Mark!

3-finger and 4-finger tap would be useful in future, so let's keep the
bug open.

Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying magic mouse this week. Does it work in Oneiric? Any plan to support it if not?

I really want to use multitouch as my primary interaction with Unity and Trackpad just doesn't feel like a 24x7 usable device.

To anyone who experiences this bug -

When you touch 3 fingers down, does your mouse pointer also freeze for a while?

If so, then it sounds like my bug 862085 is the same.

Are there any plans when the magic mouse is supported for multitouch on ubuntu (like apple trackpad)? If so, it would be the best mouse for ubuntu.

If this bug is still a problem for you, please try the fix for bug 754000 in ppa:vanvugt/unity and report back here whether or not it works.

There is a chance it's the same bug, however I can't tell from the limited information in this bug.
