Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hi,

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.8 on Gutsy.

more precisely : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071022 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.8

If I want to browse the fnac.com website, it looks like the website thinks it's a WAP browser, and offers to download the WML file.

One way to fix this:
* go to about:config
* Change the general.useragent.vendorComment value to "anything else than 'gutsy'"

The fnac.com website works again.
Of course, using "Feisty" as a vendorComment doesn't trigger the bug. Nor "cinderella" or "gabba gabba hey"

It's probably a bug on the server-side point of view, but I think it needed to be registered, because I hope Fnac.com webmasters will fix it.

Confirmed : if the vendorComment start with guts then fnac.com responds with a wml document from mobile.fnac.com
Very, very probably a problem at server side

Changed in firefox:
status: New → Confirmed

I've included the HTTP headers for a session with VendorCOmment = heron and the HTTP headers for a session with VendorCOmment = gutsy

It's definately a bug at the server side as they're using Microsoft-IIS/5.0

It's a server side bug.
Any word containing "ts" is misinterpreted as "This user agent is a WAP browser".
Fnac.com tech have been messaged, apparently.

another bug was opened for this : bug#162373

the problem with setting it as invalid is that it does not show up anymore in normal search queries

I've also noticed the if a bug report contains fnac.com, searching for fnac.com will not find it
if the bug report contains fnac and com separately, then a search for fnac.com will find it (www fanc com wap wml)
