Bug Description

When booting in text mode (vga=normal), the Linux kernel will change to a white screen very early in kernel init, which is partially/eventually replaced by normal white on black. Finnix gets around this by detecting text mode and running "clear" early on in initrd, but there's probably a more elegant solution.

The specific combination appears to be "vga=normal" and "quiet".

Looking at the kernel source, nothing appears to directly do this related to "quiet". I'm guessing that there's a condition where the (non-framebuffer) console is initialized incorrectly when no output has been written to it yet, which is much harder to pinpoint.
