Bug Description
I originally reported this at https:/
The "sl" command appears to come preinstalled on Linode's Finnix rescue images. This command is meant to catch people mistyping "ls", and displays an uninterruptible steam locomotive animation.
In some circumstances, this is humorous and can play a role to encourage the user to be careful and avoid potentially more damaging mistakes. But when one is booted into a rescue environment where one might well be trying to solve a time-sensitive problem, stalling the user's terminal for nearly four seconds and possibly clearing important information off the screen is not funny. There's already enough ways for things to go wrong or be confusing in such an environment.
I'd prefer that the Finnix image stay professional and not contain silly things like this unless they're much more passive and harmless.
Sorry for the delay; I didn't realize bugs were being submitted here. Nonetheless, thank you for your report! For more details on recent developments, please see https:/ /blog.finnix. org/2020/ 05/19/behind- the-scenes- of-finnix- 120/ .
You make a good argument, and in truth I had forgotten that sl was even part of the package set (I make a lot of keyboard mistakes, but typing "sl" has never been one of them). I've recreated the request as https:/ /github. com/finnix/ finnix/ issues/ 4 for the next release - please feel free to follow that issue.
