Conversion attempt hangs entire system

CentOS 5.7 (32-bit)
copied binary ffmpeg2theora-0.28-linux32.bin; "installed" it to /usr/bin/

input file is VOB, from an unprotected home-made video DVD

command: ffmpeg2theora CEC2004_LONG_01_1.VOB --videoquality 10 --audioquality 10 -o CEC2004_LONG_01_1.ogv

This is similar to the behavior I saw - before installing ffmpeg2theora - using VLC to convert the same file. In that case,
the system hang was so thorough that CTRL-ALT-F1 didn't do anything. I watched the system with the gnome monitor; memory consumption is stable (about 40%); there is nothing visible going on before the hang. Also tried running TOP from
the console (via CTRL-ALT-F1 before the hang); nothing noticeable before the hang. And, if the file being run has no privileges,
what can it possibly do to hang a system (other than consume user memory up to the limit allowed by the OS configuration)?

I haven't experimented so much with ffmpeg2theora.

By the way, the bug reporting system account set-up is extremely user-unfriendly. It hijacks the brower, so the back button no longer works; if cookies are disabled, it goes into a loop; If the passwords don't match, the captcha-like section disappears... I wonder how many people with bugs to report give up.
