Bug Description

The 2.6.22 kernel has countless improvements for laptop users - tickless operation, the ability to use PowerTOP to help reduce power usage, and improvements in suspend-to-RAM support. Additionally, for Mac-Intel users, it integrates many more patches than are included in 2.6.20 as bundled with Feisty. As a MacBook user, I basically find use of the 2.6.22 kernel a necessity for proper use of my laptop in Linux, and currently end up having to compile my kernel from source or attempting to use Gutsy (or Gutsy repos on Feisty for the kernel). In fact, this is currently recommended on the MacBook wiki to resolve issues with certain MacBooks (granted, I in part edited it, but no one has yet to propose a better solution). Please backport the 2.6.22 kernel and related auxiliary packages (linux-restricted-modules, linux-headers, et al) from Gutsy to Feisty.

Kernel backports cannot be done for compatibility and logistic reasons (amongst other things, there are new udev userland dependencies, and headers like linux-libc-dev get replaced with newer incompatible versions, and we are unable to provide any security updates)

I should also add, if it at all works, you should be able to directly install kernel debs from Gutsy. This is unsupported and not any safer/more dangers than backporting the package, but regardless it's not something that should be handled in the backports repository
