Bug Description

Please backport rtorrent 0.7.4-2 from Gutsy (or Debian unstable). It has been the stable version for 2 months and includes many bug fixes and support for encryption. It requires a backport of libtorrent10 (0.11.4-1), also in Gutsy/Debian unstable.

I don't know if backporting libtorrent would be harmful, however.

Does this mean it's still possible to backport libtorrent, and if that's done, rtorrent can be backported? Should another bug be opened for that?

Note: according to this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=371275

libtorrent 0.11.1 and rtorrent 0.7.4 can be installed from source and used on Ubuntu Edgy, without dependencies on libraries not present on Ubuntu Edgy. It's probably the case on Ubuntu Feisty too.

The only thing that depends on libtorrent is rtorrent, so it's OK to backport both as a pair.

I already put in a request for backporting libtorrent a few weeks ago:

However on Ubuntu Feisty, libtorrent can build with libcurl3-openssl-dev (as well as the rest of the dependencies listed on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=371275). Other posts in the thread confirm that it works on Edgy, although I have only built it on Feisty and haven't installed yet.

rtorrent is the one that fails; if we are to build against libcurl3-, we
need to modify the source and treat this as a source-change backport.
