Description:
GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP.

It shares all GIMP's advantages, including the long feature list and customisability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program's interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop's, adjusts the program's terminology to match Adobe's. While GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plugins, all GIMP's own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. remain available.

GIMPshop is available for many different operating systems, including Mac OS X, Windows 98+, Linux, and Solaris.

Due to the changes to the interface, many Photoshop tutorials can be followed in GIMPshop unchanged, and most others can be adapted for GIMPshop users with minimal effort.

Hi,

Note that the upstream page is now :
  http://plasticbugs.com/

Do you know where to find debian patch ? it seems it was built with checkinstall

Anyway here is the upstream tarball :

I also noticed this previous work (based on debian packaging of gimp );

Reading through the blog on upstreams site [1], it does not look like we really want this in Ubuntu. Upstream appears to be dead. Also no bug fixes there.

To the "We" folks that doesn't want this in Ubuntu - please think of "other" people by considering the following ;

GimpShop allows people get an idea of how confident they can be when trying out FOSS programs instead of commercial proprietary programs. It also helps people try using a linux program, who are migrating from a windows system.

If users can get productivity out of their new OS asap, then they are likely to want to stay with it.

I have not used GimpShop, Gimp is OK. But I can appreciate what it would be like for newbies or people making the change in a business environment.

Try "The" Gimpshop site -
http://www.gimpshop.com/download.shtml
look for

"GIMPshop 2.2.8 Source: if you're running Linux or don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty in OS X (Darwinports). (13.5 MB) Download Alternate Download Link"

and

"Get the GIMPshop 2.2.11 for Debian package here." (which is just for i386)

@unimatrix (andrejx),
It is not dead. Latest release is 2.6.11, so it seems its still active.
