Hi 23doenot23d,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

its IRQ 46 in Maverick ...... but its IRQ 22 in all the systems that the SOUND works ok on ..........

I also tried it with "acer-aspire- 7730zg" as I was not sure if you had missed the "z" out ....
 that also did not work.

auto ......... works - but I have only limited use of the sound module - with stereo only.

The omitted 'z' is intentional. There is no model quirk with a 'z' in
it for your codec.

To recap: without any manually-specified model quirk, nothing works,
and with the model=auto quirk, only stereo playback through internal
speakers works?

That is correct ......

I also have no options appear in the sound menu for surround sound ...... on auto setting (quirk)
( but the options did show up when I added the line acer-aspire-7730g for surround sound etc ) .....
but no sounds played through the internal laptop speakers.
I can have a try tomorrow to see if external speakers work ..... but I need to get them off another setup.
