Xubuntu 10.04 beta 2: Exaile cannot play audio CD

On a fully patched Xubuntu 10.04 beta 2, when an audio CD is inserted in the CD drive, Exaile is able to identify that there is an audio CD and is able to provide a list of tracks but cannot play any of them.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert an audio CD in the drive
2. Start Exaile
3. Click on the Audio Disc tab
4. Select the first track
5. Click on the play button

Expected behaviour:
Exaile starts playing the first track.

Actual behaviour:
Nothing happens.

Exaile version: 0.3.1.0 as shipped by default with Xubuntu 10.04 beta 2. Note that the version shipped with Xutuntu 9.10 worked fine on the same hardware.

What is the URL / location displayed in the properties dialog for these tracks?

@Johannes: the track properties menu item is grayed out. See the attached screenshot.

Does it work if you add the tracks to the playlist first? You can't
normally play tracks from the panel (at least not by pressing the Play
button; it's meant for interacting with the playlist).
