Something is going strange here. I remove ~/.config/evince. Everything goes right. After a while, the duplex option vanishes, I only can print one-sided. Also the quality option "Fast Draft" is vanished. I remove ~/.config/evince again. Things are working again. And so forth.

As I just figured out this behaviour appears after switching from "A4" to "A4 Borderless". After printing the options vanished when the printing dialogue is called next time. Switching back to "A4" and printing something, next time calling the printing dialogue the options are available again.

It seems that "Fast Draft" and double-sided cannot be combined with "A4 Borderless" on this printer. The GTK print dialog (this is the print dialog of evince) handles this badly:

1. If option settings conflict with others, the other options should not get simply removed from the dialog, instead, each pair of conflicting settings should be marked as such (I think it was this way formerly).

2. Changes in the print dialog to reflect option setting conflicts should appear immediately when selecting the conflicting setting, not only after printing (wasting paper) and re-opening the dialog.

karl, Zwylicht, please attach the PPDs of your printers (/etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd) to this bug report (do not compress them and do not pack them together). This way the GTK developers can test the bahavior of the dialog and fix it.

Okay, there you go.

It is strange, those options are disabled for I /can/ print duplex with A4 Borderless. And I can print fast draft. (When the option is provided of course)

( A4 does not give proper results for me: top and bottom are cut.)

Thanks!

When first choosing A4-Borderless I can still select fast-draft and duplex. When printed, the options vanish until I rechange to A4 and print. Printing is always okay and working. Printing PDFs in firefox works always with that configuration (fast-draft, A4-borderless, duplex). Okular can do it as well. So that is no cups-problem and it is no printer problem.

As Adobe Reader is no longer available in Linux, this is now a major defect.

Some of this may still be cups related. My OKI 331dn now installs with duplex defaulting to off. Problem is, when that's the case, the printer dialog can't be set to duplex on--it's greyed-out.

If I change the default to duplex on, then the user can change the setting.

Setting the default behavior to simplex shouldn't eliminate user choice; but it does.

Same problem here with Brother MFC-J4510DW.
After printing with A4 borderless duplex option and some resolution went missing from the dialog.
Everything is ok when printing from qpdfview.

This is fixed in latest evince (3.34.1-1) although it's not only a bug in evince but in gtk print dialog or in cups (since it shows up in gedit too). But somehow it go magically fixed.
