Bug Description

Please use Gnote instead of Tomboy for the upcoming Long Term Support release.

+ Gnote has exactly the same functions and UI as Tomboy. So it is what is under the hood that counts.

+ Gnote is smaller on the disk. Space on CDs are very limited, every MB, even KB, counts.

+ Gnote has far fewer dependencies. Again, disk space.

+ Gnote is near to using one order of magnitude less RAM.
RAM on Netbooks, which are popular and becoming more so, and on classroom computers is very limited, every 10 MB or even KB counts.

+ Gnote is much faster. Again this is of value in the growing market segments of netbooks, school (aging) computers, and mobile devices.

+ Gnote has nearly infinitely larger and growing pool of potential developers to draw on globally. C++ is the mainstay of mobile programming and is rising with the growth of mobile platforms like Maemo and Android.

+ Gnote and its dependencies are unambiguously free of licensing issues.

+ Gnote is a step in addressing Bug #1 by reducing the market presence of that company within Canonical's own product. The resolution of the bug #1 is to be achieved by reducing that company's market share, not adding to it. Application dependencies which increase that company's market share, especially within Canonical's own products should be removed from the policy-setting LTS.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx is a Long Term Support release and a small amount of prevention now will have large payoffs over the next 3 years for the desktop and 5 years for the server.

thank you for your bug report, the bug tracker is made to report technical issues though not to discuss installation choice, you should raise the topic on a mailing list or at UDS, the gnote codebase is lacking features than tomboy especially the online synchronization, it's also not really actively worked

Changed in ubuntu:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

replacing tomboy with gnotes or something else has been discussed at UDS and decided against for next cycle
