Wishlist: Ability to make Default Hold Pickup Location a required field at registration

In a previous version of Evergreen, the Default Hold Pickup Location field automatically populated to match the patron's Home Library. Staff were able to change the location but the field wasn't left empty. Now, the field doesn't automatically populate and if nothing is entered in the Default Hold Pickup Location field, holds are sent to the Home Library for pickup. The ILS pulls the Home Library as the Pickup Library. Most of the time that makes perfect sense.

Sometimes, staff forget to enter a Default Hold Pickup Location when it is imperative that they do so because the pickup location needs to be different from the home library. It is currently not possible to make Default Hold Pickup Location a required field when registering a patron.

I would like to be able to require my library's staff to complete the Default Hold Pickup Location field before registration can be Saved.

In CW MARS, we would not want to have Default Hold Pickup Location required nor default to the patron's home library as holds placed by staff are set to fall back to workstation library when a default hold pickup location is not set.

I could see requiring the field to be beneficial in some situations, so it would be nice if this were controlled with a Library Setting.

Confirmed the behavior in the initial report; might need discussion, though, based on John's comment above?

We go through and remove any default hold pickup location settings that get set by staff where it is the same as the home library.

Otherwise, when patron's move from one branch to another, staff are good at updating the home library, but most won't think to update the default hold pickup location.

So I would agree that it should be optional to require it.

I agree with a library setting. The setting should default to not required, please.
