Bug Description

EG 3.0.5

It would be helpful if we could attach shelf expire times to particular item types or circ mods. For example, we hold books for patrons for 10 days but DVDs for 2 days. This is not possible when hold shelf expire time is set as an organizational unit.

As a discussion point, ISTM this would best be implemented as a value attached to hold rules for flexibility, and would default to the org setting if the value is not set on a rule. Thoughts?

I think hold rules are a reasonable way to go about it for a good flexibility/complexity trade off. Especially because different locations may want different times and you wouldn't want a new circ mod just for that.

BC Libraries Co-op Support has recently received a request for this type of functionality; note that the member library requested that the function be set by circ modifier.

We have been asked about this functionality a few times over the years, so would like to add our voice to this request.

I see that how the function would work is a discussion point if this request is revived, and that makes sense to Co-op Support, and we are interested in what others think.

We think this would be a useful feature for most libraries.

Thanks for considering.

We're interested in adding support for this, also with an eye toward having shorter shelf expire times for certain items (by circ modifier).

All other items would default to the value of the existing org unit setting.

Adding this as an optional "output" field to hold rules / hold policies looks reasonable.

We had a recent request for this functionality. It makes sense to include it in the hold policy rather than the library settings.
