Wishlist from cataloger:

The Z39.5 import screen does not allow catalogers to specify to search only DLC records from OCLC, and does not have a column or other indicator available for DLC records in the results.

I note that OCLC has a special Z39.50 use attribute, 1019, that if set to 'y', *restricts* search results to DLC records. Would this be more or less useful than highlighting DLC records in search results?

As far as highlighting records is concerned, should that be based on the presence of "DLC" in the 040 $a or $c? What about if there's a $d with "DLC"?

Good afternoon, Galen!

Thanks for getting back with me. I talked with our cataloger to get her
opinion. Naturally, in an ideal world, her response was "both" - being able
to *restrict* to DLC records, and highlighting them in a general search -
but in practice either, with a preference towards being able to restrict
the search due to the similarity to OCLC protocol.

On the highlighting of records, I'd say preference should be given to 040
$c as the transcribing agency, in case the $a field indicates a different
original cataloger for a record adopted by DLC. The $d field should be
ignored as a source for DLC indication as it's the modification history, so
if "DLC" appears there it isn't necessarily indicative that record as it
currently exists is from DLC.

Thanks,
Sam

I was looking at this this morning and incidentally trying to limit a search to DLC records. I would be interested in a patch to limit to only DLC records. Probably with a checkbox on the Z39.50 to "Limit to DLC records only?" or some such.
