This is a wishlist item. In adopting acquisitions, we have found that the Acquisitions - General Search is fantastic, but the default operator of "is" is problematic for fields like "LIA - Title", "LIA - Author", and other fields which will almost never be given exact matches.
We would like to be able to set the default operator for some search fields to be "contains" instead of "is".

The Angular acquisitions search rewrite (bug 1850547) includes this functionality.
