Bug Description

Wishlist item from the Cataloging Interest Group meeting Evergreen 2014.

In the record summary, in addition to links for Add Volumes and View MARC, add a link to Edit MARC. Access to the link would be controlled by permissions so that if user did not have permission to edit a MARC record the link would be “grayed” out and not functional for them. This would allow catalogers to access Edit MARC functionality more quickly and improve workflow.

I was at that meeting and later spoke to the person that requested this feature. I just wanted to add that their main reason to want this feature is that in their library they use acquisitions, and within their workflow the ability to edit MARC records from this screen makes a lot of sense. If I recall correctly.

I've attached a screenshot of what I believe is the place in question.

Yamil -- you are correct. The person initially requesting this was using acquisitions. However, a number of people in the meeting agreed it would be handy.

Galen, Yes, that my interpretation of the location of the link as requested by the group. Hopefully, if I am incorrect, someone at the meeting will correct me.

This would save the step of having to go to the Actions menu to select MARC edit. If I have multiple records to edit I do set the default interface as the MARC record. However if I'm editing a numeric field because of an incorrect cover image I want to see the OPAC display first so I can open the added summary content, then I want to open the MARC editor, then go back to the OPAC view. A single click to get to any of these views would be very nice.
So-- how about an "OPAC view" link up there too. Which ever view you were on would be active (grayed out).
Note: the "View MARC" doesn't take you to the same place as the MARC view under the Actions menu. The link in the upper left opens a popup instead of changing the view shown in the tab.

I think this issue has been resolved in the web client with the OPAC View, MARC Edit, MARC View, etc. being tabs rather than accessed through the Actions menu.
