serials receiving error

In some cases, our libraries have trouble receiving specific serial issuances. Our libraries use Serial Control View for receiving. It seems that the problems lie either in invalid captions and patterns or in the resulting holding codes. If a user creates an invalid caption/pattern using the wizard, the system should generate an error message at that time.

System Information:

Evergreen release 2.3.7
PostgreSQL 9.1.9
Operating System: Debian 6 (Squeeze)
OpenSRF: 2.2.0

Example 1

The following Caption/Pattern was generated using the wizard:

["2","0","8","1","a","(year)","b","(month)","c","(day)","w","d","y","odsu"]

I added a sample issuance with the following holding code:

["4","1","8","1","a","2013","b","6","c","14"]

I generated one prediction which had the following holding code:

 ["4","1","8","1.2","a",2013,"b","06","c",15,"x","AUTOGEN"]

This error was generated when receiving the issuance:

NOTE: the library previously received issuance using a different caption and pattern. I have tried deleting all expected issuances, generating a new caption/pattern, creating a new test issuance and generating new predictions but cannot receive any issuances.

I received the following error last week while we were still on v.2.2.8:
