Do a Numeric Search, for either TCN or Barcode. The results page has the basic search "Search for" -field, which will contain the searched-for number, but clicking on the "Search" -button will not produce any hits. (Even if the Numeric search did produce a hit)
Suggested Fixes:
1) In the results, the simple search Search for -field should be left clear
2) ... or be populated with such values that the user gets the exact same result when clicking on Search.
3) ...or the top part of the page should keep the "state" - which search type the user used - one of Basic, Advanced, Numeric or Expert, and show the fields for that.
Ideally, I'd prefer the 3rd one.

I have a solution for some of that in my adv_summary branch. It is basically your #1 due to the difficulty in making it work otherwise.

I am also mentioning this branch on bug 1005040.
