Bug Description

EG version: 2.2.0
OpenSRF: 2.1
PostgreSQL: 9.1
Linux: Ubuntu Lucid

Searches in the TPAC are not finding existing items in our database. The same searches inthe JSPAC are finding the items.

Example:

I am searching for a book titled: "AutoCAD 2010 in 2D and 3D"

Doing a keyword search in the TPAC does not find the item:

http://libcat.mohawkcollege.ca/eg/opac/results?fi%3Aitem_type=&query=Autocad+2010+in+2d+and+3d&qtype=title&locg=1&_adv=1&page=0&sort=

However, same search in the old JSPAC does find it:

http://libcat.mohawkcollege.ca/opac/en-CA/skin/default/xml/rresult.xml?rt=keyword&tp=keyword&t=Autocad%202010%20in%202D%20and%203D&ft=&l=1&d=0&f=

We have other examples where search results differ considerably in TPAC compared to JSPAC.

The record in question has 901 field. TPAC depends on 901 fields to display records.

An update: our cataloguers found an extra MARC field in the record:

 04 ‡aST3A

When they deleted this using the flat editor, the record can now be found in the now TPAC. Could something in the upgrade have added this field? The cataloguers assure me they did not add this and that it wasn't there before.

Anything's possible, but it's highly unlikely that the upgrade added it. You can always check the auditor tables to see the history of a given record.

More likely is that the presence of the malformed "04" tag prevented the maintain_control_numbers() function from doing its work and adding the 901 field. When the cataloguers saved the record to remove the 04 field, the 901 was added by the trigger on the biblio.record_entry table, and now it can be retrieved in the TPAC.

Thanks Dan,

One of my suspicions was that some of the reported TPAC catalogue search issues are related to local malfomed MARC records. This seems like a great opportunity for MARC cleanup on our end.

More likely is that the presence of the malformed "04" tag prevented the

I marked this as invalid since it is a local issue. We need to clean up oir MARC records a bit.
