Bug Description

Tuxracer was very fluent and smooth few years ago on my laptop. But etracer is not usable now.
I use a Mandriva 2009.1 and I have also compiled extremetuxracer-0.5beta with the same behaviour.

Laptop with ATI Radeon 9000, Driver "ati"
$ glxgears : 8381 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1676.100 FPS
*-memory size: 767MiB
*-cpu product: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
From xorg.conf:
Section "Module"
    Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
    Load "extmod"
    Load "freetype"
    Load "glx" # 3D layer
    Load "dri" # direct rendering
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
    VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
BoardName "ATI Radeon X1950 and earlier"
    Driver "ati"
    Option "DPMS"
    Option "BIOSHotkeys"
EndSection

When starting the menus of etracer, the mouse cursor is fluid but when a race
is started (full screen or not), the movement is not fluid: 1 or 2
image/second. The CPU load (sys) is 95%
